چکیده

To everyone who loves mathematics, everywhere. i Acknowledgements I cannot stress enough how wonderful it is to study mathematics at Berkeley. I had the great privilege to share ideas there with many fantastic mathematicians. My advisor, Ken Ribet, granted me the freedom to pursue this project while masterfully answering the lion's share of my questions. The ideas for the final chapter grew out of interesting conversations with Robert Coleman. I give special thanks to Bjorn Poonen: his generosity with time led to many, many improvements in the final draft. Some more words of gratitude: Stefan Wewers taught me almost everything I know about the local Langlands correspondence. Without having had a conversation with Richard Taylor and Teruyoshi Yoshida, I couldn't possibly have written Section 4.2. I have also profited from communication with Akshay Venkatesh, Darren Semmen, and Chandrashekhar Khare. Yet more thanks are due to my student colleagues Lauren Deason, Janak Ra-makrishnan, Jomy Alappattu, Andrew Presley, and Aaron Greicius for their help and friendship, and to everyone who encouraged me to pursue a career in mathematics.

Automorphic Representations of the Jacobi Group and of Gl 2

A lifting map from cuspidal automorphic representations of the Jacobi group G J to cuspidal auto-morphic representations of the group PGL(2) is constructed. The lifting also has a local deenition, and the local and global versions are compatible. The local lifts can be described in terms of equivalence classes of local representations. The main idea in the construction is to exploit the close r...

Automorphic Lifts of Prescribed Types

We prove a variety of results on the existence of automorphic Galois representations lifting a residual automorphic Galois representation. We prove a result on the structure of deformation rings of local Galois representations, and deduce from this and the method of Khare and Wintenberger a result on the existence of modular lifts of specified type for Galois representations corresponding to Hi...

On tensor product $L$-functions and Langlands functoriality

‎In the spirit of the Langlands proposal on  Beyond Endoscopy ‎we discuss the explicit relation between the Langlands functorial transfers and automorphic $L$-functions‎. ‎It is well-known that the poles of the $L$-functions have deep impact to the Langlands functoriality‎. ‎Our discussion also‎ ‎includes the meaning of the central value of the tensor product $L$-functions in terms of the Langl...

2 3 Se p 20 14 PERIODS AND GLOBAL INVARIANTS OF AUTOMORPHIC REPRESENTATIONS

We consider periods of automorphic representations of adele groups defined by integrals along Gelfand subgroups. We define natural maps between local components of such periods and construct corresponding global maps using automorphic L-functions. This leads to an introduction of a global invariant of an automorphic representation arising from two such periods. We compute this invariant in some...

Automorphic Forms and Metaplectic Groups

In 1952, Gelfand and Fomin noticed that classical modular forms were related to representations of SL2(R). As a result of this realization, Gelfand later defined GLr automorphic forms via representation theory. A metaplectic form is just an automorphic form defined on a cover of GLr, called a metaplectic group. In this talk, we will carefully construct the metaplectic covers of GL2(F) where F i...
